Chookshed Stitchers 2024 Challenge #1, Tilda Peels, Chicken Dinner from Canadian Needle Nana

This little guy kept popping his head out. He's living in the tunnel under the back terrace plus has inherited what I imagine to be an elaborate tunnel system all over the property made by groundhogs that came before him.

This is a very young groundhog, which are the largest of the squirrel family. Those cute ears are small and rounded to keep dirt out of them while doing all the continual digging. The yellow flowers are a mystery visitor but it has flourished there beside the little rocky manmade pool. Anybody recognize it?
Is it St. John's ...

Rainy Walks, Cardinal Rule, Summer Highlights from Canadian Needle Nana

Here as promised, photos of us out in the rain storm.  We are trying to get a photo but Ned was eager to get on his walk.
Windy so hanging onto the hat which always reminds me of Paddington Bear.  Hats really don't suit me! I think it's specifically my nose they don't suit, :D.
A word about my Columbia rain coat and blue boots...no surprise-both are from the thrift store. The coat had a small tear on one pocket which is why I guess it was donated. I've gotten a lot of wear from ...

Chookshed Stitchers Challenge- Cardinal Rule, Free Patterns from Canadian Needle Nana

The resident mallard on our pond is sleeping there overnight. If up and down there early enough, I see him always resting in the same spot.  I took this shot from a great distance but even then he alerted. Every year the ducks try to nest there and we find the egg shells strewn about. I've tried to work out how the legs are folded here. ? Mallards are part of the Dabbling Ducks family which I'd never thought was a real scientific name till I looked into how they spend their nights.

What shade of yellow would you ...

Chookshed Stitchers Challenge, Bramble Blooms, Free Redwork Patterns from Canadian Needle Nana

I'm amused watching this small turkey flock trot through the front yard. The male is displaying constantly and looking so special.

But as far as we can tell, the females don't even give him a glance. In fact, one day they all left and trotted off leaving him standing there alone. We felt a little sorry for him.
What a great gift! My sister always hits the mark with the books she gives me.
I've enjoyed reading it very much and just love the collection of over 50 easy and healthy recipes Helen has included with her ...

Chookshed Stitchers Challenge,Hawk Run Hallow Cross Stitching, Favourite Meal from Canadian Needle Nana

We had an amazing temperature shift in the weather this week...+15 C high one day back down to -15C low the next. Definitely surreal to have another higher temperature like that in February. There was a tremendous amount of melt that took place in a very short time. The change over period brought on early darkness amidst a heavy wind, thunder and lightening storm that seemed to be crashing right above our roof. Ned was scared- not the bravest fellow, and we were so relieved we only lost the power for a couple of minutes. I wonder what did ...

Chookshed Stitchers, Tiny 9 Patch Challenge, Blue Courthouse Steps, Ups and Downs from Canadian Needle Nana

We had a rabbit living in the front yard, hiding under the veranda but it has moved on. I think Ned may have caused that because he happened to catch him on the veranda one day and chased him underneath.

Deana pulled #2 for us to work on this month for the Chookshed Stitchers Challenge .

I had to look back at my original post to see what that would mean for me. It is the Blue Courthouse Steps project and I am thrilled to be working on this one for February. Here is a photo of all the blocks I ...

Bramble Blooms, Chookshed Stitchers Challenge, Free Patterns from Canadian Needle Nana

If the sun is making it higher in the sky each day, we will never know here in our corner of Ontario. Even our weather guy said our usually gloomy winter weather has been unnaturally greyer this year.  It is interesting that this seems to be happening in other countries as well. And it makes me wonder if  greater weather change is afoot- or not.

I'm reading an ebook version of this book below and must say how much I'm enjoying it. It's about a young couple working hard to successfully homestead, work at marriage and create ...

2024 Plans, Chookshed Stitcher's Challenge, Minor Injury from Canadian Needle Nana

Don't you hate it when you lose the power? Ours was out Wednesday for half the day and I moaned so much (in my head) I got annoyed with myself. We had a mini snowstorm that turned to rain and a bit of freezing rain in the middle of it all put out the power. We got out our gear -emergency lamps, radio, and now keep the generator inside the house from way down in the big barn because we lose the power every winter. (It is placed outside on the deck when in actual use). Everything is all ...
